About Bonnie

The inspiration for Bonnie’s Barkery comes from the journey that previous owner,  Sarah Dixon,  started a few years ago when she began researching pet foods for her Pomeranian, Bonnie, who was constantly overweight despite attempts to control her diet.  Frustrated with the lack of progress with Bonnie’s weight loss, Sarah began researching the world of pet foods to better address Bonnie’s diet and other health issues.

Like Sarah, many consumers are not aware that some commercial pet foods contain chemical preservatives, food additives, by-product meats and less nutritious grain fillers that can increase the risk for kidney failure, liver disease and cancer.  Driven to bring awareness to the availability of nutritious options, Sarah opened Bonnie’s Barkery in 2004.

In June of 2008, Sarah sold the business  so that she could advance her knowledge even further.  In the fall, she will begin a Master’s degree program in animal nutrition at the University of Missouri at Columbia.

In keeping with Sarah’s mission, new owners, Samantha Somers and Trish Brink, will continue to offer healthier solutions for pet owners by providing nutritious food options such as raw food diets for dogs and cats and other diets which contain free-range, hormone-free and organic ingredients.

Bonnie’s Barkery is located at 29455 North Cave Creek Road on the southeast corner of Cave Creek Road and Tatum Blvd. in the Fry's Shopping Center.  Call 480-502-7973 for more information.
